Philadelphia Brick

Even a short stroll, ride, or drive through Center City Philadelpia will quickly reveal the architectural composite of choice – brick!

Nearly all facades are brick.

In fact the first house of brick in this country was erected right here in Philadelphia in 1682 and is none other than Penn House.

So why brick?

It is made of some of the most abundant  materials on earth - clay and shale.

It lasts, in most cases it outlasts other building materials.

It has a uniformed shape making it an architecturally  interesting building material.

It is nearly maintenance free.

And best of all for us Philadelphians, it’s aesthetically appealing block after block.

Brick – it’s our city’s signature look!
